As you go through them, though, do be aware that sometimes 'free' can be the most expensive thing ever, if it costs you your dream. If the free writing software meets your needs, then great! But don't be scared to spend a little bit on your novel-writing dream if another piece of not-free writing software would meet your needs better. We novelists are lucky in that we need so few resources to pursue our dreams ... but sometimes I think that makes us think that we don't need any. It's good to honour our writing dreams by being properly resourced, in my opinion.
